Heroes Hockey Challenge will be featured in five cities: Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax.
The idea for this event was founded and born out of the vision and passion of Mr. Glenn Cumyn. Glenn grew up as the son of CWO (retired) Jim and Ruth Cumyn, an amalgamated 65 years of service to the Canadian military. Currently, Glenn has no less than 5 direct family members serving and countless friends. Out of a direct need to assist and support, Glenn has encompassed the two main passions that Canadians hold dear to their hearts… Sport and our Service Personnel. The
Heroes Hockey Challenge and its mission statement "A Nation Needs Its Heroes" is a direct result of this passion.
Glenn's initial intent was to conduct a fundraising event for the benefit and support of the troops. As the idea developed, Richard Brodeur, of King Richard Management and Vancouver Canucks fame, was commissioned to provide Event Organization and Management. He also provides the link needed to bring the support of professional athletes and celebrity entertainers.
During the 2010 Grey Cup festivities in Edmonton, discussions with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Regimental Major Harpal Singh Mandaher (Manny) took place. From the very start, Manny embraced the idea for a benefit hockey event and soon became the link between civilian and military worlds. Manny offers this event the sole Military voice needed to ensure this liaison is smooth and professional.
With the addition of Ross Tocher, President and CEO of Qwick Media as the initial lead sponsor, the event scope changed from a single City to a Nation wide fundraising event.
