Professional Cycling Event Coordinator

     

The UBC Grand Prix is one of Vancouver’s premier road cycling events and is part of the four-race series, BC Superweek. In 2011, the event kicked off hosting over 100 pro men and 35 pro women cyclists, including a kids race and corporate challenge event. In 2012, the event looks to build on its successes and continue its community involvement and brand awareness as one of the country’s top pro-am cycling events!

The Corporate Race Director is looking to fill four positions on the event committee to strategize, plan and execute a successful corporate bike race. Chosen applicants will have an understanding of event management, sponsorship, proposal writing and excellent networking skills and be excited to work on an event that will enable them opportunities for future professional careers in the industry. Each chosen applicant will become responsible for a different role within the committee and convene once per week (via email of phone) with the Corporate Race Director and in person once every two weeks. Time commitment requires you to provide 2-3 hours per week maximum on this event as well as more hours when necessary. In the four weeks leading up to race day (July 10th, 2012) time requirements will increase to a maximum of 15 hours per week.

For those who are chosen this position represents an un-matched opportunity to meet like-minded people in the area of business you choose to get into as a career. It will enable you to strengthen your skills in the areas of event management, participation in sporting events, sponsorship and corporate proposal writing. Successful applicants will benefit from working with a team of professionals that have participated in hundreds of events collectively, allowing each person to feed off the positive atmosphere, continually building their portfolio of knowledge.

The deadline for applications is January 27th, 2012 and interviews will follow shortly thereafter. This is an unpaid, volunteer position and if you are one of the chosen candidates, you must fulfill your agreement of committing the aforementioned time frames. You must be available on race day (July 10th, 2012) and be open to watching the first BC Superweek race prior to the UBC Grand Prix. Applications must include a cover letter, resume and separate document outlining your passion for wanting to work on this bike race.
