DanceSport BC is pleased to announce the return of Summertime
Ballroom Dancing at
Robson Square. Starting July 8, every Friday night will kick off at 8pm with a free lesson by a local professional instructor, and will feature two showcase performances at 9pm and 10pm by local dancers in full costume.
Every Friday night, crowds of between 500 and 1,000 people flock to the ice-rink at
Robson Square for three hours of social and ballroom dancing.
Summertime dancing began at
Robson Square in 1991, as a joint project of the BC government and the City of Vancouver. These popular open air dances fell to government cutbacks in 1991, and when
DanceSport BC took over in 1992 the popular
Robson Square Summer Dance Series was born. The series took a four year hiatus after the summer of 2006, as the future of the public space at
Robson Square lay in doubt.
Now, on the 30th Anniversary of the original summertime dances, couples young and old will once again trip the fantastic underneath the stars, receive free lessons from BC's best dance teachers, and see demonstrations by BC's best dancers.
